SEND! magazine Second Quarter 2006: Along the Journey with Jesus

Along the Journey with Jesus

"Thou my everlasting Portion, more than friend or life to me / All along my pilgrim journey, Savior, let me walk with Thee." This hymn, Jonathan Lim's favorite, expresses his heart's desire to follow Jesus wherever He leads. "It's like my life's motto," he says.

Jonathan followed the Lord's call to Gospel for Asia nearly six years ago. Jonathan had grown up in South Korea and came to the United States in 1993 to attend seminary. After graduation, he began translating some GFA materials into Korean, and it made an impact on his heart.

"Revolution in World Missions changed my perspectives on Christianity," he says. "I learned that missions is one of the fruits that comes out of the Christian life."

Several months later, Jonathan attended a Korean missions conference where GFA president K.P. Yohannan spoke. His eyes were opened even wider to the need for missions, and he knew the Lord was calling him to join Gospel for Asia.

Today Jonathan leads GFA's Korean Department. Much of his time is spent translating GFA books and materials. His wife, Michelle, and several other volunteers assist him with translation and design work, including the Korean edition of SEND! magazine, which has about 4,000 subscribers. The rest of his time is spent sharing about Gospel for Asia with Korean pastors and congregations across North America.

"The most important aspect of my work is to develop relationships with pastors," Jonathan observes.

With its emphasis on prayer and missions, the Korean church has great potential to make a difference for eternity. The opportunities are vast, but Jonathan needs more staff in order to go forward. He is praying for a younger Korean pastor to join him, one whom he can train to share about the ministry. He also needs staff skilled in translation work, web design and information technology. But more than any qualification, the Korean Department needs people who are called by the Lord and have a heart to serve.
