Bible College Student Loses Parents to Monsoon Floods
The parents of Prakash, a third-year Gospel for Asia Bible college student, were washed away in the heavy flooding in their village in Maharashtra, India. The body of Prakash’s father, Marotrao, was recovered, and his mother, Vimla, is presumed dead.
"They were returning home after visiting their eldest son, Deepak, in another village," our correspondent wrote, "and as they were crossing the narrow bridge leading to their house, Vimla suddenly slipped into muddy water and starting floating away. Seeing her sinking, Marotrao rushed for help, but he was also carried away in the flash floods."
Two other residents of the village tried to save the husband and wife, who were part of the local GFA church, but the heavy currents carried them away also. A team from their church rushed to the spot after they heard the news. Marotrao’s body was found early the next morning, but they were unable to locate Vimla.
In Maharashtra, 13 villages have been evacuated due to the extreme monsoon rains this year.
