SEND! magazine Second Quarter 2006: Carrying the Treasure Home
Carrying the Treasure Home
Beginning each morning with prayer and devotions, children from around the Indian subcontinent gather to attend Vacation Bible Schools (VBS) offered by Gospel for Asia. Every year, GFA provides thousands of children with opportunities to sing songs of praise to the Lord, learn Bible stories and—most important—hear about salvation provided through Jesus Christ. Through VBS, the destiny of many small lives has been forever changed.
When 13-year-old Abjit heard that Jesus died on the cross for his sins and rose from the dead, he happily gave his life to the Lord. Another child, 12-year-old Achal, also came to VBS and found Christ. He wants to tell his Muslim family members about Jesus and prays they will embrace the Gospel with love and acceptance, but he fears they will become hostile toward him. Nine-year-old Abha was used to stealing and arguing with her parents, but after attending Vacation Bible School, she became a new creation and returned to her home with repentance.
Vacation Bible Schools are used by the Lord to not only reach the children, but to bring the Gospel into their homes as well. With 40 percent of India's 1 billion people under 18 years old, Vacation Bible Schools are stepping stones to reaching all of Asia with the Gospel.
During the VBS program, GFA provides each child with a packet containing Bible verses to display on the wall, a booklet with several Bible stories in comic style the child can easily share with others, a New Testament and a cassette tape that has a short message and songs from the VBS program.
Gospel for Asia enrolled nearly 100,000 children in VBS programs last year. All of these children had the opportunity to hear about Jesus-and 30,000 gave their lives to Christ, returning home to their families with a newfound treasure.
You can send a special gift to provide VBS packets! Each one reaches a child-and a family-for Christ. Visit or contact Gospel for Asia in your country.
