Text from this PhotoShow:
This family is one of thousands who lost everything after flood waters devastated their village. These floods are the worst in 100 years to hit the Indian states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
The scenes of watery destruction are everywhere, with entire villages submerged.
The force of the floods not only drowned fields, livestock and villages, it also destroyed sturdier structures before it gradually subsided.
This pastor leads one of at least 170 Gospel for Asia-supported churches that have been inundated by the floods, which were spawned by a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal.
Families like these, literally living on the side of the road, have taken whatever meager possessions they can salvage as they seek the safety of higher ground.
But like this young man, thousands of victims remain stranded, drinking polluted water to stay alive.
The only way to rescue many of the stranded victims is by boat.
Thousands are being housed in temporary shelters like this one. GFA Compassion Services teams are already active in providing food and clean water to those in need.
Nurses and doctors are distributing medicines to fight the water-borne diseases that take lives in the wake of destructive floods, but the need is great. GFA is joining the efforts to fight disease as well as provide other short-term aid.
GFA Compassion Services teams are also coming to the aid of victims likes these by providing clothing contributed by local churches.
When these flood survivors are rescued, GFA teams will be in place to provide each family with a relief supply kit that includes two blankets and a thick rug, 11 pounds of corn flour and 11 pounds of rice per family—all for a cost of only US$20.
Though her home is badly damaged and much is lost, this survivor is not without hope because God's people are praying for her and standing with her through Gospel for Asia's Compassion Services teams.
