Pastor Tobias's church, located near Delhi, India, has been growing lately. One of the reasons is the new Women's Ministry that has recently started in his church. It all started when he realized that half the women in his church could not read-and that it had a negative impact on their spiritual growth.
He asked Malika, a member of his church who had only a fourth-grade education herself, to hold classes for the illiterate women.
Malika knew the value of literacy and caught the vision. She began teaching some of the women in the church to read and write so that they could read the Bible themselves.
They use the same materials used in elementary schools.
The women are learning the basics, starting with the alphabet.
Most of the women attending church this Sunday are involved in Malika's literacy classes.
Women are showing the love of Christ to one another, and that love is spilling outside the church.
One woman named Daya shared how the love shown to her by the women of the church helped her through a difficult pregnancy and birth, as well as the medical complications that followed. The prayer, meals and love meant a lot to her.
The church is growing in numbers and in spiritual maturity as a direct result of Malika's literacy classes.
