Missionary Arrested, Harassed

Gospel for Asia missionary Niranjan Das asks for prayer for the salvation of the people opposing the work of God in Uttar Pradesh.

Niranjan Das and his congregation were thrilled when they were finally able to purchase land on which to construct a church building. Their joy was short-lived however. Now anti-Christian extremists are doing all they can to halt construction of the building. They even had the pastor arrested and held overnight in jail.

Niranjan Das is a Gospel for Asia missionary in Uttar Pradesh, India. This state, inhabited by over 150 million people, is India's most populous. Less than one percent of the people are Christians.

The police heard about the extremists' activity and summoned Niranjan to the station. When he arrived, they began to question, mistreat and harass him. The police held him in jail overnight, releasing him the next morning.

Niranjan asks for prayer that he will remain encouraged and receive strength from God to continue to serve the community.

Also, please pray for the successful completion of the church building without any further interference.

Moreover, he asks believers to be in fervent prayer for the salvation of the people who are opposing the ministry of God in this area.

Uttar Pradesh isn't the only place in India that Christians are harassed. Read stories of nearby states that also experience persecution for the gospel.

Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi, along with other Indian heroes, lived in the same state as Niranjan.
