Anti-Christian extremists went on a rampage in Orissa, India, in August 2008. They marched into villages and brutally attacked Christians.
They set fire to thousands of houses and churches. This woman lost her home.
This young woman was barely able to escape her tormenters.
The legal authorities initially did very little to stop the attacks. Christians were overpowered and forced out of their homes. Many ran into the country's forests to escape the violence.
After eight months of living in crowded shelters and tent cities, or hiding out in the jungles, people are now trying to return to their homes. But many houses are damaged beyond repair.
Gospel for Asia is now able to rebuild homes and churches destroyed during the rampage. The new homes will be simple, sturdy, Indian-style houses that cost an average of US$2,500 each.
Gospel for Asia has built houses for survivors of previous disasters. These homes were built for survivors of the 2004 Asian tsunami.
When GFA builds new homes, they are designed specifically for the location and the needs of the people. This home was one of many that were built in an area where flooding is common.
The new homes are constructed using locally available materials . . .
. . . by local laborers. This way the new house blends in with its neighbors.
But the best part comes on the day when the family moves into their new home! Imagine the joy they will feel knowing that God has provided for their needs.
