Shamini slumped on the floor, glad to rest. Her leg had swollen considerably. She winced from the pain. She did not want to stop telling people about Jesus, but she could not walk to the villages. She had been to several doctors, but none of the medications they prescribed had solved the problem.

Unwilling to stop her outreach, Shamini prayed and decided to continue her ministry in spite of the pain. And in answer to her prayers, God soon healed her completely.

Shamini is a Gospel for Asia native missionary serving the Lord in central Sri Lanka. A civil war, which tore the country apart for 20 years, officially ended three years ago, but political conflict is ever present.

Religious traditions permeate every aspect of life, making opposition against new believers an ongoing reality. One Christian family wanted to conduct a Christian funeral service when their son died. But because the father had once been the village priest, the community was adamant that the funeral be held according to their pagan customs.

The believers cried out to the Lord for intervention. Miraculously, the opposition unraveled, and on the day of the funeral no one came to oppose them. Today, the villagers are beginning to see the truth of the Gospel.

With one heart, 243 Gospel for Asia missionaries are sharing the Good News and planting churches in Sri Lanka. Their prayer is for the lost to come to know His unfailing love. Please pray that as they reach out to those who do not know Jesus, thousands more will receive salvation through Him. Pray also for a thriving church to be planted very soon in the former priest’s village.
