The cold weather and steep hills of Meghalaya were only the beginning of Biju’s culture shock. Traveling away from his warm native state in India, he had to face a new language, eat different food and learn new customs.
Biju welcomed these challenges for six months so he could learn about practical ministry. Like every student in Gospel for Asia’s Bible colleges, Biju went through a six-month internship on the field with the goal of preparing him for full-time ministry.
Unable to speak fluently with the people in Meghalaya, Biju decided to do film ministry with another missionary who was from that state. They carried the equipment to mountaintop villages—not an easy walk—to show a movie on the life of Jesus. Biju’s legs started to swell from the mountain climbing and the cold. But he could not be easily stopped.
Rather than focus on his own problems, Biju’s burden for the film ministry grew. He was exuberant when four people received Christ in one of these villages, but since there was no pastor there, he and his film team partner returned to do follow-up work. The village was very small, with only seven families. But through Biju’s film ministry and endurance, all seven families chose to follow Jesus. Today, they worship in the village’s first church. In another village, five families received salvation as a result of his work.
Please pray for the new Christian families to know the Lord more, and pray for God to give strength to Biju as he shares the Gospel in the mountains during the rest of his internship.
