This Bridge of Hope center in Tripura was one of several that were severely damaged in last spring’s storms. In most, classes were able to continue under difficult conditions.

This was one of four Bridge of Hope centers in Tripura that were completely destroyed by the storms of May 2010 in India’s Tripura state. All classes had to be suspended.

Three months after the storm, this severely damaged Bridge of Hope center was fully repaired.

On the site of a completely destroyed Bridge of Hope center, this new center is now open and classes are in session once again!

Four Gospel for Asia-supported Bridge of Hope centers in Tripura, India, were rebuilt and are open again after being destroyed by a powerful storm that hit the state in May. The rebuilding was completed three months after high winds and heavy rains blew down houses, uprooted trees and blocked roads all across the state.

While four of the Bridge of Hope centers were completely destroyed, a number of others were also severely damaged. In the four centers that suffered the most damage, all student activities had to be suspended during the reconstruction process. The staff of the other centers were able to continue working with the children while their facilities were being repaired.

In all, some 972 Bridge of Hope students and their families were impacted by the storm, some losing their homes in the deluge.

It is difficult to run these centers and minister to the children in this situation,” said a GFA-supported national missionary, “and it may take longer to restore all of the programs than it did to reconstruct the buildings. But by the grace of God we had no serious injuries or loss of life reported among our children or their parents, and for that we are deeply grateful.”

It is our prayer that we will have everything running back to normal as soon as possible and that the hundreds of students affected will continue to be blessed by the Bridge of Hope program.”
