Bridge of Hope students march to show their neighbors how Jesus has given them hope. |
In a region that was devastated after the 2004 Asian tsunami, a parade of happy children walked the streets to share their newfound hope. The children, who attend four Gospel for Asia Bridge of Hope centers, are from poor, underprivileged families that were affected by the devastating tsunami. But these kids had a message of hope to share with their community.
They marched with signs and shared a message promoting fair treatment for girls, abstaining from smoking and alcohol, good health habits and ending child labor.
Many of the people in this area suffered loss from the tsunami. Now the GFA workers and Bridge of Hope children are striving to keep them from getting involved in other issues that would devastate their lives.
This event was part of GFA’s longstanding commitment to the community after the tsunami. Several NGO’s brought immediate, short-term help. But GFA is one of the few that remained to keep building hope—for as long as it takes.
At the end of the rally, all the Bridge of Hope children gathered and performed cultural songs, dances and gave speeches. Local leaders were among the crowd, too, and heard as the children shared what Jesus meant.
The GFA workers request prayer that the awareness march will make many people consider how they are living their life, and that many will come to find hope in Jesus.
