Shanu was exhausted. Her body was worn out and she wasn’t in her right mind. Shanu’s family was terrified for her. They watched as this seemingly normal woman descended into madness. What they didn’t know was that Shanu’s illness was really a spiritual attack by a demonic force.
Shanu’s family took her to witchdoctors and medical doctors seeking relief from the oppression. They also offered poojas—a type of ritual sacrifice to a traditional god—but nothing worked. Shanu sank deeper and deeper into darkness. The demonic attacks left her weak and broken, both mentally and physically.
Shanu’s family heard about a local Christian church where prayers were being answered. Gospel for Asia-supported missionary Manik Malhotra is the pastor of this church.
As a last resort, Shanu’s family brought her to Manik’s church. They poured out their hearts, sharing the terrifying details with him. Manik’s heart broke when he heard the desperate pleas of this family. So he asked the family if he could pray for Shanu. They agreed, and he placed his hand on the woman’s head, and began to cry out to God. With authority and power in his voice, he commanded the demons to leave the woman’s body in the name of Jesus Christ.
As Manik was praying, Shanu let out a loud scream and everyone sensed that the demons had left her. This was confirmed a few moments later when Shanu’s countenance changed, and it was apparent she was completely set free.
Even though the demons thought they were destroying Shanu and her family, they really helped her find the real Prince of Peace—Jesus Christ. After witnessing the power of God at work in Shanu’s life, her entire family chose to follow Christ. They also led many others in their village to the delivering power of Jesus. And the forces of darkness continue to be driven from that village.
