A devastating cyclone slammed into Bangladesh and West Bengal, India, on April 13. The storm's 100-mile-per-hour winds were devastating.
More than 150,000 people, like this man, were left homeless as a result of the storm.
The official death toll stands at 142, and thousands of others were injured.
The people who live in this area are extremely poor. Their homes are made from tin sheets . . .
. . . or bamboo they harvest from the forest. Few of these homes were able to withstand the storm.
More than 70 villages now lay in ruins.
Gospel for Asia-supported Compassion Services teams arrived in the area the day after the storm. Their first job was to get emergency food supplies to everyone.
Each villager received rice and dal, a type of lentil bean. These two items form the staple of these villagers' diet.
Gospel for Asia-supported workers are committed to serving in this area for the long term.
They will help rebuild homes—and put entire villages back together—for months after the storm has passed.
