Surgery to remove a gallstone and his appendix did little to alleviate the pain, but Subkir chose to continue in ministry.

Not even cancer could stop Gospel for Asia-supported missionary Subkir Tamang from telling people in Nepal about Jesus. After serving the last three years of his ministry with acute stomach pain that turned out to be cancer, Subkir passed away on February 15. Subkir leaves behind his wife, son and four daughters, as well as a large number of believers who know Christ because of his ministry.

Subkir Taman served faithfully in his home country of Nepal.

Subkir was 49 years old when he enrolled in a GFA Bible college in 2000. It was there that he began to show the dedication and enthusiasm that later marked his work on the mission field. He led many to Christ on his first assignment. He then requested a transfer to his home village. Many of his own family members did not know Christ, and Subkir had a burden to reach them. By 2004, he had started a Christian fellowship in his home village.

At about this same time, Subkir began suffering from intense abdominal pain. Surgery to remove a gallstone and his appendix did little to alleviate the pain, but Subkir chose to continue ministering to the people. He visited believers to encourage them and continued sharing the Gospel. Soon, 14 people in nearby villages chose to receive Jesus as their Savior and a small fellowship was formed there, too.

In January, Subkir’s pain and weakness became unbearable. He was admitted to a hospital where doctors discovered cancer that had spread through his stomach and intestines. Just a few weeks later, Subkir’s life on earth ended.

Subkir’s wife is involved in ministry, and their son, currently training at a GFA Bible college, is preparing to take over his father’s work.

Please pray for this family to feel God’s presence, even in grief,” requested the GFA field correspondent. “Pray for the church and fellowships he started, that God may send a faithful servant to look after the flocks there.”
