Ganika grew up with a father who walked closely with Jesus. |
Ganika and Nirajit grew up with two very different fathers, who played vastly opposite roles in their lives. Today they share the same heavenly Father.
The two worship in the same church—Ganika as a member of the congregation and Nirajit as her Gospel for Asia-supported pastor who shepherds the congregation.
Nirajit’s father was an alcoholic who took out his anger on his wife every night, while Ganika’s father was a Christian with a strong faith in Jesus, even though his family did not follow in his footsteps.
… even though his family was very devout in their religion, Nirajit remembers there was no peace at home.In fact, both Ganika and Nirajit grew up worshipping many gods and goddesses. But when Ganika’s brother, Chandrak, became mentally ill and doctors and sorcerers couldn’t help, her family thought about their father’s steadfast Christian faith and decided to pray to the Jesus he prayed to. They earnestly prayed in faith for a miracle in Chandrak’s life—and saw God work, restoring him back to normal. Through this experience, they, too, trusted in Christ.
Later Ganika married a non-Christian man. She consistently prayed for him, and he, too, chose to follow Christ. Ganika and her husband have publicly testified to their Christian faith and now worship together at the church where Nirajit is pastor. Ganika also serves at the local Bridge of Hope center.
Many of Nirajit’s childhood memories involve his parents taking him to temples, teaching him to follow their religion from a young age. Yet even though his family was very devout in their religion, Nirajit remembers there was no peace at home. Nirajit’s father, Pallav, had a serious alcohol addiction. He would drink every night and quarrel with his wife, Ajita.
Ajita tried everything she could to make her husband a better person, but nothing was working. It was a miserable environment for a child, and Nirajit remembers trying to run away from home. But he would always end up back home because there was nowhere else to go. His family’s situation seemed hopeless.
Then a lady visited their home and shared the Gospel. Listening to her, Nirajit and his mother were convicted that they were sinners and needed a Savior. They chose to turn completely from their family’s religion and follow Christ.
Some months later, Nirajit attended Bible college. Seeing the incredible change in his son’s life made Nirajit’s father want to know Jesus, too, and he put his faith in Him. The Lord also enabled him to give up his alcohol addiction. Because of Christ, peace flooded the family’s home.
And today, equipped through his training at a Bible college, Nirajit strengthens the faith of believers like Ganika and reaches out to the lost with Christ’s love.
Give God thanks for the wonderful peace He has brought to two people who worship the same heavenly Father and have the joy of knowing that their earthly fathers worship Him, too. Please pray that Nirajit and Ganika will each stay close the Lord and for His blessings on their respective ministries—Nirajit in the community and church, and Ganika to those around her and the children she ministers to in the Bridge of Hope center.
