Text from this PhotoShow:
Just a week before the massive persecution of Christians in Orissa, India, broke out last year, the believers in that state reached out through community development service projects.
They cleaned the local bus stops and even the government health center.
These Christians worked hard to clear the fields of trash and weeds.
Local streets were also cleaned and swept of any lingering debris. Just a few weeks later, militants went on a rampage and killed dozens of Christians. Thousands of homes and churches were burned down, too.
But even fear of further persecution didn't stop the Christians from conducting a blood drive three months after the attacks. Bible college students and staff willingly donated their blood to help their communities out.
In December 2008, Bridge of Hope students in Orissa received their annual medical checkups and then led rallies on various justice issues like child labor and illiteracy. They even held banners and passed out leaflets warning of the dangers of AIDS and how to prevent it.
The love these GFA-supported missionaries had for their community and the people in it also took them to a leper colony.
Nutritious meals wrapped in bundles were given to those affected with the skin disease.
Vocational training was also set up to help the women in this community earn a living.
These women were given sewing machines and taught how to use them. Now they can earn a living in spite of their disease.
