A Family Finds Hope

February 25, 2009

Churches led by GFA-supported missionaries are filled with Asian believers who eagerly worship after finding lasting hope in Christ.

Sakila's family was about to give up hope.

The 40-year-old woman in Jharkhand, India, had suffered under the bondage of demon possession for 22 years.

There seemed to be nothing Sakila's family could do to make her better—and they were very worried. They had faithfully performed rituals of their traditional religion . . . only to be left with despair and failure. They had also sought the help of witch doctors, but that proved futile as well.

But just when they were about to give up, God brought hope through the prayers of Gospel for Asia-supported missionary Kanak and the believers in his church.

When Sakila's family heard about Kanak, they visited him and told him about Sakila's tormented condition. Kanak assured them that God would surely set her free from the demonic oppression through prayer. For three days, he fasted and prayed for Sakila to be delivered. His church congregation joined in praying for the troubled woman.

On the third day, the demonic spirits left her body—and she was set free! Seeing God's mighty power, Sakila and her family marveled. They realized the power of Jesus and believed in Him, proclaiming, "He is the Creator and real Life-Giver."

The whole family began regularly attending Sunday worship at Kanak's church. They also opened their home for a small group meeting during the week for worship and prayer.

Pray this family will continue to grow in their Christian faith, and for many in this area to come to know Christ through their testimony.
