Text from this PhotoShow:
Sri Lanka was inundated with a foot of unexpected rain in late June. This led to widespread flooding on the island nation.
At least 20 people died and tens of thousands were forced from their homes.
Gospel for Asia-supported Compassion Services teams have been in the affected area since the storm hit the week of May 17.
Their first job was making sure everyone had something to eat.
More than 2,000 grateful families received food from the teams.
The second wave of Compassion Service teams is comprised of medical personnel.
The doctors and nurses conducted mobile clinics, treating hundreds of patients.
Many were suffering from stomach and skin problems from contact with the dirty floodwater.
As with the food distribution, the medical teams visited multiple villages.
In some places, the storms that spawned the floodwaters caused major damage to homes. GFA is there to help them rebuild.
As people return to their homes, one of their first priorities is to get their water wells working again. And GFA has Compassion Services teams to do that, too.
These teams empty the contaminated well, removing the tainted floodwater, along with the trash and dirt that accumulated. Now the well is as good as new.
There are even teams to help clean the mud and trash from previously flooded homes.
The team members participating in each of these activities have a simple goal in mind—they want to be the hands and feet of Christ and to show love to the suffering.
They want to help the people return to their normal lives with the knowledge that there is a God who loves them.
