An unexpected deluge hit Assam, India.

Flash floods hit Assam, India, in late August. Heavy monsoon rains and strong winds accompanied the floods, ripping off portions of the roofs of a GFA-supported Bible college.

Wave after wave of floods inundated more than 60 villages and affected more than 85,000 people who were forced to evacuate their homes. Communication lines were cut off and frequent power outages heightened the situation.

No casualties have been reported, although many were injured, including a Bible college student who hurt his neck.

Assam is just one of the Indian states and neighboring countries that have been battered with floods leading to major devastation. Much of the flooding is due to erosion and overflow of rain in nearby rivers, which were unable to handle the excess monsoons rains this year.

GFA Compassion Services teams were prompt in responding to the situation and are already providing physical and spiritual aid to those in need.
