Maitri Chattopadhyay heard the worst news any expectant mother could hear: The doctors could save only one life—either hers or her baby’s. After Maitri went to the hospital to deliver her child, her blood pressure skyrocketed. The doctor informed her she had developed serious complications, and only she or the baby would survive the delivery. Struck with fear, Maitri began to cry.
Thankfully, God had placed women of faith in Maitri’s life. Maitri participated in a Women’s Fellowship gathering in her slum neighborhood. Through the leaders of this weekly fellowship group, Maitri and other women from the slum became interested in learning about Jesus. When the ladies of the Women’s Fellowship heard about Maitri’s dangerous predicament, they rushed to the hospital immediately.
By the time they arrived, Maitri’s physical condition prevented her from even talking. But the ladies reassured her and her husband.
“Prayer makes everything possible in our life. So you need to do only one thing; that is to believe in Jesus Christ,” they told her.
And they prayed for Maitri and the baby in her womb.
Shortly thereafter, Maitri went into the delivery room. To the amazement of the doctors, she delivered a healthy baby boy.
When the doctors thought only one life would survive the delivery, God saved both. As a result, another miracle occurred in the lives of Maitri and her husband: They praised God and began worshiping Him at their local church.
Please pray that Maitri and her family will grow in their new faith and their story will encourage other people to follow Jesus.
