A tumor in Tanyak’s back had plagued him for nearly 10 years, and he had spent a great sum of money trying to treat it. Even after he resorted to selling his cattle to pay for treatment, there didn’t seem to be much the doctors could do. They suggested surgery to remove the tumor, but it was more than Tanyak could afford.
A devout follower of his religion, Tanyak had visited the temple, performed rituals and offered fasting and sacrifice—but nothing helped. Now he was stuck in bed, suffering with pain, despairing of life itself.
Then one day, looking through his window, he saw a Gospel for Asia missionary talking to his neighbor. Tanyak knew the pastor told people about Jesus and prayed for the sick, but he hated the Christian faith and wanted nothing to do with it.
And yet, a desperate thought entered his mind:
“Here I am, dying with this terrible pain. At least before I die I can try out Christianity and see if it helps.”
So Tanyak called out to the GFA missionary, asking for prayer.
“Sir,” he told the pastor, “I have spent all the money I can for my treatment, but nothing worked out. Now I am hopeless, with nobody to help me. But I want to try out your Jesus; perhaps He can heal me.”
The missionary gladly prayed, and to the suffering man’s great joy, Tanyak experienced complete relief from his pain!
“Jesus healed me!” he shouted out. “He is the true God!”
Tanyak received Christ as his Savior and spoke often of his new faith to others. Through his testimony, many in the village have shown an interest in hearing the Gospel. Please pray for Tanyak. Pray for his spiritual growth, and especially for courage as he faces opposition from area non-believers. Pray as well for the salvation of his wife and children.
