Chhutar was just an infant when his father deserted him. This left his mother with the burden of providing for her two sons. With her crowded schedule, church was reserved for special occasions like Christmas. But attending church was the last thing on Chhutar’s mind. He was angry with God for allowing his father to walk out on them. Seeing friends receive gifts from their parents only made matters worse.
His bitterness consumed him. At the Christian boarding school where his working mother enrolled him, he rebelled. The principal often talked to Chhutar’s mother about his behavior, in hopes that she could help. But the concerned mother’s corrections fell on deaf ears. Already, her son was so enraged he planned to seek revenge on his father. Had not God in His mercy intervened, Chhutar realizes he would have killed his father—and ended up in prison.
One day a team of missionaries visited the school, proclaiming Christ’s love for mankind. For the first time in his life, Chhutar felt deeply loved and began to weep. The pain and resentment he had harbored for so many years disappeared. He knew he had a friend in Jesus, his Redeemer.
A new creation in Christ, Chhutar couldn’t get enough of God’s Word. Friends even made fun of him for his eagerness to read the Scriptures. Meanwhile, the principal marveled at the change in this once rebellious youth.
As time went on, Chhutar continued to seek refuge in his heavenly Father, who gave him a burden for ministry. He enrolled in a GFA Bible college to prepare for his calling. Thank God for this young man who will point others to the love of the Father. Pray for a breakthrough in the life of Chhutar’s earthly father.
