Gospel for Asia-supported missionary Mande Gargon lost his home as a result of the massive flooding that is sweeping across Pakistan and North India. Mande lives in the Uttarakhand, India, area—much of which has been underwater for about three days. Mande and his family, along with hundreds of others, were evacuated by boat and are now staying in a government-run shelter. About 400 families were affected in this one area alone.
News reports indicate that 70 people have died in Uttarakhand from the flooding during the last week.
Mande lives in an area where the majority of the houses are made from mud bricks. Many of the homes were washed away in landslides.
Mande oversees several small yet flourishing congregations in the flood-affected area. He has a wife and several small children.
Gospel for Asia’s Compassion Services teams are already in the area, aiding Mande and hundreds of other families with their daily needs. Mande will be one of the missionaries who helps the families rebuild their lives after the floodwaters recede.
Mande shared the following prayer requests:
- Pray for God’s intervention in this difficult situation.
- Pray for the Lord’s protection upon the flood victims, as conditions are ripe for an outbreak of waterborne diseases.
- Ask the Lord to stop the unusually heavy rains that have inundated North India during the past few weeks.
