Communal violence is tragically common in many parts of Asia.

Seven churches led by Gospel for Asia-supported missionaries in Assam, India, need prayer. The Christians in these churches live in an area where just last week, ethnic fighting left 12 people dead and 25 homes burned down.

The destruction happened during a clash between a Nepali community and members of the Boro tribe. Heavily armed Boro militants barged into a village of Nepali immigrants and started shooting people. Some Nepalis retaliated by burning down 25 thatched-roof homes in a nearby Boro village.

This has sent a wave of shock all around the state,” GFA’s correspondent wrote. “Police and military are constantly guarding this area, but the situation has not yet calmed down.”

Militants use violence to create fear. The resulting roadblocks make it difficult for GFA-supported workers to travel. Government-mandated curfews also limit their ability to conduct worship services and prayer meetings.

The missionaries in Assam ask for prayer for the safety of the believers there. They desire that more blood will not be shed, but that true peace will reign and bring hearts to the Lord. They also ask for prayer that the church buildings would not be targets for vandalism or destruction.
