After the October eighth earthquake that destroyed parts of Pakistan and India, a Gospel for Asia team of 14 people left Jammu for the devastated areas of Kashmir. They spent eight days ministering to the needy. What the team saw moved them to grief and sorrow. Cooking utensils, furniture, food—everything lay under the rubble, and many were hurt and sick.

It was impossible for the team to meet so many needs, but they were eager to help even a few people. During the eight days, they passed out 125 blankets and distributed food and medical treatment to approximately 240 people. While giving physical aid they also offered the Lord’s love and comfort. They gave Gospel tracts to many and shared about the Athmik Yathra radio programs in their languages. They also had the chance to give Urdu New Testaments to four families.

Although the team could not entirely dispel their sorrow, the villagers were extremely appreciative for the help.

One team member remarked, “When we were about to leave, they were in tears. Out of their love, they tried to give us little things of courtesy like milk and tea even though they need it for themselves. Most face an impending winter without shelter, warm clothing or blankets.”

The team is now home in Jammu taking time to rest. A new team of missionaries will be leaving soon with fresh supplies. Please pray that the Lord will be honored through their service and pray for many to know the love of Jesus in Pakistan and Kashmir.

Due to several difficulties, GFA is unable to send missionaries into Pakistan at this time. We are, however, sending supplies to other indigenous Christian ministries at work in the midst of the devastation. Please pray for those who are suffering so much, that they will come to know the hope found in Christ, and for the believers who are ministering to them.
