Gospel for Asia missionary Sukhwinder, 35, was killed Sunday in a motorcycle accident that spared the life of his wife and child.
On the couple’s way to church that morning, their motorcycle and an oncoming scooter had met in a head-on collision. Sukhwinder, thrown off his bike by the impact, hit his head on the road and died immediately.
Usha, tightly grasping her child, also fell—but escaped with only a minor fracture on her right wrist. Her child’s life was also preserved in the crash.
With a special burden in his heart for Sikhs, Sukhwinder had started ministering in this particular area of Punjab, India, after graduating from a Gospel for Asia Bible college in 2001. At the time of his death, he pastored a church of 25 believers (all former Sikhs) and led two fellowships in surrounding areas. Two vacation Bible schools he had organized in the past six months also enhanced ministry growth.
When going on outreach, Sukhwinder often brought his 9-year-old son, Daniel, who played different instruments to provide musical accompaniment. Usha actively contributed to her husband’s ministry as well.
Even after her husband’s death, Usha has voiced a willingness to continue laboring for the Gospel among the people he loved so much. Please pray for God’s abundant blessings and comfort to rest upon this special young woman as she cares for her family and ministers to hurting souls in the midst of her own sorrow.
Pray also for comfort for her three children—ages 9, 5 and 1—as they grieve the loss of their father. And finally, please pray for Sukhwinder’s widowed mother who will miss the only son who regularly cared for her needs.
