A Rajasthan government official recently said that “nobody has a right to make conversions in this state….” This statement was made as part of a debate over an anti-conversion law that the Rajasthan government is seeking to enact in its current legislative session.
Dalit leaders view conversion as part of their fundamental rights and say that Dalits have been deprived of their basic rights under the traditional caste system. Many Dalits are open to the Gospel because they are seeking freedom from this oppression.
Religious leaders have expressed concern that, if passed, the law would be used as a means to harass minority groups. One leader expressed that existing provisions are ample for dealing with any unethical conversions.
Furthermore, attacks against Christians in Rajasthan have escalated in recent months. In one incident, an extremist group disrupted a service, severely beating some of those who had gathered to worship.
Pray for the Lord’s miraculous intervention, that this law would not be passed in Rajasthan. Pray for His comfort and courage for the 95 GFA pastors and nearly 2,000 Christians in GFA Believers Churches there—and for all the believers in Rajasthan.
