Flood victims in Bihar are lined up outside a Gospel for Asia office to receive blankets.

Gospel for Asia Compassion Services teams have been out in full force for six weeks delivering aid to victims of the recent floods in Bihar, India. But delivering provisions to the people is proving to be a complicated process.

The floodwaters that ravaged the country throughout August and into September have yet to recede in many places. These places are only accessible by boat.

In some places, lawlessness is also a problem. This became apparent when GFA Compassion Services teams attempted to distribute blankets to 600 families in one of the hard-hit areas. A mob estimated at 450 people gathered at the GFA district office, broke down the gates and attacked the workers using iron rods and daggers. They were trying to steal the blankets so they could sell them at greatly inflated prices.

A prayer of dedication before the blankets are distributed.

Thankfully, the local village leader and a retired military officer were present and were able to help bring the situation under control. Most of the blankets got to their intended recipients.

Compassion Services teams in Bihar ask for prayer for their safety as they travel from place to place distributing aid. Also pray for continued favor with the local government officials.
