These students at a Bible College honored Mahatma Gandhi, the “father” of their country, during a rally commemorating his birthday.

Students and staff from a Gospel for Asia–supported Bible College in India took time to recognize Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday on October 2.

Gandhi’s birthday is a national holiday in India. Indians refer to him as “The Father of the Nation” for his leadership in helping their country gain its independence from the British. His philosphies of non-violence are also revered by both the Indian people and millions worldwide.

The students and staff at the Bible college led a march through the town. One of the students, dressed like Gandhi in a traditional dhoti, trademark wire-rimmed glasses and bald head, led the march. The group also carried placards with selected quotations from Gandhi.

The goal of the march was to remind the public about Gandhi’s message of national unity and equality for all.

The local people really enjoyed seeing the students displaying their national spirit. Many commented that they were impressed with the students, who were the only ones in that area to commemorate the day publicly.
