Many people in India are forced to beg on the streets in order to barely survive, because employers are reluctant to hire people with disabilities.

Harjit Rishi couldn’t calm the baby as it screamed at the top of its lungs. And although he tried, he had no way of responding to the voice telling him to pray for the child. “Harjit! Harjit! You must wake up!”

It was all a dream. But he was about to relive it.

Jarred from a deep sleep, Harjit slowly heard a man’s voice becoming clearer. “Please come and pray for my precious child,” Parag Mannan pleaded. Harjit jumped out of bed. Though his blind eyes could not see the distraught father, he knew the situation was serious from the sound of Parag’s quivering voice.

It was not that long ago that Harjit himself had needed prayer and help. He had wandered into the village in Assam, India, begging for food with nothing more than the tattered clothes on his back.

Harjit had lost his modest job after an electrical accident left him completely blind. His wife spent all their money taking him to several doctors, but treatment could not heal his eyes.

Left with no other option than to beg, Harjit sat on a corner trying to obtain enough money to support his wife and their handicapped son. But soon, they were forced to leave Harjit and find jobs in a bigger city. The money Harjit gathered as a beggar was not enough to sustain the entire family.

Desperate and alone, Harjit stumbled into the village and began to beg. And just when he thought all hope was gone, he met a Gospel for Asia missionary and the believers who attended his church.

The believers began bringing Harjit meals and assisted him in finding a place to stay. As a result of their helping hands and witness, Harjit decided to follow the Savior who cared for him so much.

As his faith grew stronger, Harjit learned to completely trust the Lord for everything. And it was this example of strong faith that compelled Parag to seek out Harjit’s fervent prayers for his sickly child.

So Parag led Harjit into the shadows of the night. When they arrived at Parag’s home, his little baby was still shrieking. Harjit immediately fell to his knees and began interceding for the infant. As he prayed, the little baby’s cries faded away with the Lord’s complete healing.

News spread around the village that the Lord heard Harjit’s prayers. Everyone was amazed as they saw the incredible miracle, and they praised God for working through Harjit. More people began coming to Harjit requesting prayer, and the Lord continued to work in marvelous ways.

Like these GFA missionaries, Harjit fervently prayed for Parag’s little baby.

Now Harjit serves the Lord faithfully through a prayer ministry. He no longer has to beg as God has provided for all of his needs through the believers.

Harjit requests prayer that his life will continue to bring glory and honor to God. The GFA missionary who is pastor of Harjit’s church also asks for prayer that many in the village will come to know Christ through the church’s ministry.
