Indrani grew up in a family in South India that had the resources to give her a quality education—including thorough instruction in karate and classical singing. And today, her well-rounded background is used on the mission field as she reaches out with the love of Christ to women who are prostitutes.

But this wasn’t always her life’s direction.

As a teenager, Indrani was fiercely devoted to the religion of her village—a system of beliefs steeped in spirit worship and superstition. She became a leader in an anti-Christian organization, leading many other young people down the same path.

But then one day she heard the Gospel clearly proclaimed, and the love of Christ so deeply gripped her heart that she immediately left her old beliefs and became a Christian. Someone later encouraged her to apply to a Gospel for Asia Bible college, even helping her along in the process.

Upon graduation, Indrani began full-time ministry in the Indian state of Goa, a place God had been laying on her heart. Her parents, however, had other plans. They began pressuring her to return home and marry an educated non-Christian man they had chosen.

Indrani agonized over the situation with tears. She sought the counsel of the wife of her Gospel for Asia leader, who advised her, “You must love and fear God more than your parents.” The woman also urged Indrani to ask the Lord Jesus for a miracle-a change in her parents’ hearts.

After receiving this counsel, Indrani spent a few days in prayer, making a firm decision in her heart that she would not leave the ministry—no matter what. With a grateful heart, she watched as the Lord did intervene in her predicament: In time, her parents stopped trying to force her marriage to the unbeliever.

Today, through Indrani’s faithfulness and commitment to the work entrusted to her by God, a ministry to female prostitutes has sprung up. Through the outreach team she leads, many women have discovered that they are cherished and valued by God. And many are giving their hearts to Christ.

Please pray that Indrani and each member of her team will stay close to Jesus and continue to be His vessels of compassion among these women who yearn to hear of the Savior’s love. And pray for the salvation of each of their families.
