Not Bound by a Prison Cell
Nearly five years ago, Manja Tamang, a native missionary in Nepal, was falsely accused and sentenced to a 20-year imprisonment. Before his arrest, Manja served as the pastor of a local Believers Church.
Today, separated from his family for so long, it would be easy to give up all hope and joy. But Manja has chosen to remain joyful and faithful in sharing Christ’s love, even in prison. His wife, Rati, shares his burden to reach Nepal with the Gospel. A graduate of a Gospel for Asia Bible college, she is also continuing in ministry.
Manja’s honest character has impressed many, even the wardens, who have appointed him as a prison medical assistant. His faithful witness is bearing fruit. He meets regularly with a small group of prisoners who want to hear more about Christ, and several are now believers.
On several occasions every year, the king of Nepal grants amnesty to a number of prisoners. GFA leaders have been in contact with government officials to appeal for Manja’s release, and recently one of his chief jailers sent a very positive report. Please pray for Manja’s freedom.
