Karen's Family
Please tell us a little bit about yourself, Karen:
I am married, at age 40, to a loving husband and we are raising four teenagers in our home. We moved to southern Illinois two years ago and I felt that the Lord was calling me to do something more than just go to church and try to be "good". I have always believed I was Christian, but wasn't quite sure that I knew what part of the Body of Christ that I was. It was during a Bible Study on Experiencing God that I learned that to be close to God it was imperative to see where God was working and join Him. I believe God is working in the 10/40 window and I wanted to be apart of that, even if it was only in a minute way.
So why did you take a Max Missions Trip?
After reading some GFA literature, Luke 12:48 spoke volumes. Our Lord has pulled me up out of ashes, wiped me off and for that, much is expected from me.
What kind of stuff did you do to raise support for your missionary?
I reached out to fellow Christians to inform them of how God was working in Asia. It's so exciting! Basically with pen in hand and word of mouth, I conveyed to them how the Lord was working in Asia.
In my way of thinking, if more unbelievers saw our churches in America really reaching out to unbelievers with how imperative it is to reach the lost in every country it would convey to them how much we love our Lord and they would want to be apart of that.
What kind of response did you get when you told people about your missionary and invited them to help support Him?
It was mixed. Some poorer gave what I thought to be a generous amount. What was most exciting was the way God enabled us to complete the funding for our missionary. My husband received an unexpected check in the mail that allowed us to supply Amar, our native missionary with his full amount. God is good.
How did the support come in? Was it in the way that you expected?
I had expectations in the beginning, but full funding was met very unexpectedly with the Lord blessing us with a sum that allowed us to answer many prayers.
What was the best part of the trip for you?
The best part is that the trip never ends. I am forever changed in my thoughts. There is a spirit of contentment that lives in me. I am changed in my thoughts forever.
What would you tell someone who is considering taking a Max Missions Trip?
It was easy to do and humbling to think that the Lord can even call me into service. I am forever blessed by such a small act and that they will be too!
How did this trip impact your relationship with God? What things did you gain or learn from it?
I learned more than I could list. The scriptures really opened up for me. I learned how to live for eternity instead of for this world. I received a sense of peace that the Lord was with us. I sense that our world here treats everyone here differently, but we can all hope for a wonderful Kingdom beyond this world!
What kind of impact do you believe this will have on the unreached of Asia? On eternity?
Only God knows the plan, but from what was revealed in scripture to me, this is exactly what each and everyone of us is suppose to be doing.
