After the October 8 earthquake, 15 Gospel for Asia native missionaries and volunteers packed up a truck and a jeep and spent eight days ministering to the devastated victims.
They spent most of their time in a needy village near the border of Pakistan, in which almost all possessions were lost under the rubble.
Every house in the village was destroyed. And nearly everything they once owned was lost under the rubble. They had no way to boil water or cook even the simplest meal.
The GFA Compassion Services team offered medical attention and distributed blankets, warm clothes and food to the devastated villagers. Their supplies lasted longer than they expected as many in the village were fasting for Ramadan, a Muslim holy month.
After setting up three tents that were easily accessible, one of the team members, a doctor, gave medical treatment to the sick and injured.
In addition to meeting physical needs, the team shared the love of Jesus and the hope found in Him. Some villagers said the GFA volunteers were the only ones who really showed that they actually cared about them.
On this dreary day, rain and mud puddles formed quickly. The outlook for the coming winter is bleak, especially with the lack of adequate shelter, warm clothing and food.
As the team got ready to leave, the villagers were moved to tears—grateful for the love they had been shown. Reflecting on their ministry, one GFA team member said, "Our Lord enabled us to serve them freely without them feeling anything else but that we loved them."
Please pray for this village and the thousands of people suffering from the earthquake. Pray that the love of Christ will heal their hearts.
