Pray for Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is reeling from massive, widespread flooding that devastated portions of the country last week. A strong storm, spun off of Cyclone Laila, dropped 13 inches of rain on the island nation in just five days. "This is the worst flooding to hit the country since the Asian tsunami devastated Sri Lanka in 2004," said Gospel for Asia President Dr. K.P. Yohannan. "They had absolutely no warning that this huge storm was on the way. It took them totally by surprise." Here are some ways you can pray for Sri Lanka.
Pray this pre-monsoon storm will stop long enough for the water to fully recede before the full-force of the seasonal monsoon rain comes ashore in Sri Lanka.
Pray the annual monsoon rains, which are expected to start this week, will not exacerbate the already difficult situation.
The missionaries serving on Gospel for Asia's Compassion Services teams need strength to endure their extra long days. The need is so great they often don't have time to even stop and have a meal for themselves.
The people need food and water, but they also need compassion. Ask the Lord to make the missionaries extra sensitive to the spiritual needs of the people.
There are thousands of people who need help. Pray supplies would continue to be available.
Churches and Bridge of Hope centers may need repairs or rebuilding in the future. Pray the Lord would provide the necessary resources.
Pray for long-term restoration of not only homes and livelihoods but also of hearts and souls. |
