These 42 young women come from nine different parts of Northeast India. They are attending the Meghalaya women's Bible college for ministry training.
The staff at the Bible college are well-trained and teach the students thoroughly about God's Word and how to effectively share their faith.
Jasmi gave up the approval of her parents and the rest of her village to study at the Bible college. She is committed to go wherever the Lord would send her but has a special heart to take the Gospel to her native village.
Discipleship groups provide avenues for students and staff alike to share their experiences, personal prayer concerns and thoughts from Scripture. "Through discipleship groups, we are able to develop our relationships not only with God, but also with each other as sisters in Christ," shares one staff member.
Both the discipleship groups and regular chapel services provide opportunities for the young women to pour out their hearts to the Lord in worship.
Coursework is complemented by practical application. Every weekend, the students go out in teams, sharing the Gospel in neighboring villages and giving out tracts. Staff members regularly join the students on weekend outreach.
GFA has a men's Bible college in Meghalaya as well—and this theme of personal involvement is also carried through at that campus. GFA also has a smaller, third Bible college in the state.
Retreats for the students provide refreshment and extended times for prayer and worship.
The Bible college ministry—as well as the whole of GFA's work in Meghalaya—is built on prayer. And the Lord has brought wonderful growth: Although GFA just started ministry to Meghalaya in 2004, many of the 16 "original" missionaries have not only started one or more churches, they lead several small fellowship groups as well.
When these students graduate after their three years of training in the Bible college, they will be equipped to join those already serving on the field, spreading the Gospel in Meghalaya.
