Temple Priestess
Becomes an Instrument of God
Through Kavita's prayers, the Lord has healed many people in her village who were ill. |
Kavita Rihon followed her traditional religion so faithfully that she even built a temple for a goddess on her property. But no matter how devoted she was, her life only worsened.
Growing up ill in a poverty-stricken family in Assam, India, Kavita was unable to receive proper medical care. Most of her days she laid confined to her bed.
Once she was old enough, Kavita was married—but things didn't get better. On top of her poor health, she and her husband fell into terrible financial trouble. And they weren't able to have children either—a shameful disgrace in their culture.
In an attempt to find peace and happiness, Kavita began regularly to worship their family's goddess and make sacrifices in her name. As time went on, Kavita even built a temple for the deity at their home, becoming the priestess. But despite all the rituals, she could find no peace.
Things got even worse when Kavita began losing her mind. For a year, she suffered from complete insanity.
It was at this time, when Kavita had hit rock bottom, that a Gospel for Asia Women's Ministry team came to her door.
The group shared the Gospel with Kavita and her family, and they prayed for her to be healed. Over the next several months the women continued to intercede for Kavita, and the Lord answered and miraculously restored her mind.
After seeing the incredible power of the true God, Kavita and her family began faithfully attending church. Soon, they all decided to follow Jesus. The family could not believe how much joy and peace they felt, knowing that a Savior cared about them.
As time passed, Kavita and her family grew in their walks with Christ. And even as a simple believer, Kavita felt God's call to do greater things for His kingdom. So she began praying faithfully for the needs of others.
Reaching out to those who were sick, Kavita would go and ask the Lord for their healing. He honored her prayers, and many people were delivered from their illnesses.
Five families have received Jesus into their lives as a result of witnessing His power and love through Kavita's life.
Kavita requests prayer that many more will come to know Christ, and that she and her husband will walk closer to Jesus each and every day.
