Caught red-handed, Shiv Devinder winced, waiting for the harsh blow of his brother's fist.
He'd become the shame of the family as word spread around town that he was a thief. Now there was no denying it—his own brother, Umesh caught him in the act.
"Kneel down!" Umesh told Shiv. Fearing his life was over, Shiv reluctantly did as he was told.
"Here it comes," Shiv thought. "He's going to finish me for sure."
Slowly peering up from the ground, Shiv couldn't believe what was happening.Then Umesh pulled something out of his pocket that would end Shiv's life—his life of crime, at least. It was a Gospel tract. Umesh stood over Shiv and read out loud how the Lord forgives sin and can change anyone from the inside out.
Slowly peering up from the ground, Shiv couldn't believe what was happening. His brother had every right to condemn him for his terrible and disgraceful actions, yet Umesh was showing mercy.

Shiv's heart began to melt as he saw the gracious love of Christ being poured out on him at that very moment. He immediately wanted to know more about this incredible Savior and turned away from his life of crime for good.
Umesh had become a Christian through the witness of a Gospel for Asia missionary. He regularly attended church and had grown in his faith. He knew the Lord could transform his brother's life.
Now he continued to answer Shiv's questions about Jesus. Shiv began regularly attending church, as well. Soon, he decided to follow Jesus with his whole life. The villagers were astonished at the transformation that had occurred in Shiv's life, and they gradually gave him back their respect.
A few years later, Shiv even felt the call of God to be a missionary, and responded by enrolling in a GFA Bible college.
Shiv requests prayer that he will be able to reach many with the Gospel through his testimony. He also asks for prayer that he will know where to serve after he graduates from Bible college.
