These children from a Gospel for Asia Bridge of Hope center in Nepal are learning to brush their teeth with their brand new toothbrushes! They received the toothbrushes and toothpaste when a GFA Medical Team visited their village.
Using visual aids, team members taught the children about their teeth and how to care for them. They also taught the children action rhymes about toothbrushing. Many of these children had never used a toothbrush.
The team, consisting of six medical doctors and GFA missionaries, conducted medical camps in seven Bridge of Hope centers in Nepal.
They checked the children's heartbeats ...
their eyes ...
their tongues and throats ...
and ears!
As they gathered the children's medical history and thoroughly examined them, doctors discovered that a number of them suffered from issues such as skin and ear infections, dental cavities and allergic conjunctivitis. A few had more serious problems like heart murmurs, asthma or tuberculosis.
After consulting with parents, the doctors prescribed and freely dispersed medicine for the children. A few of the more seriously ill children were referred to specialists for further treatment.
The children's mothers enjoyed a special seminar one of the doctors taught just for them. She outlined how to care for their children's health and their own as well.
And as part of their instruction in basic hygiene, the children got to watch a special hand-washing demonstration. Each child received soap to take home with them.
Although the team had many hours of hard travel to reach the children, they considered it a worthwhile venture. "The team was tired but happy to serve Jesus among these little children and the people," noted a GFA field correspondent.
