"Most of the time, the only moments I am alone during a day is when I'm sitting on an airplane," says 17-year-old singer/songwriter Bethany Dillon. Bethany, who has released albums in 2004 and 2006, now spends much of her time on tour.
"I realize that this isn't necessarily a 'normal' life, but to be truthful, music isn't all-consuming for us," she states. "We go home to our little podunk town in Ohio and just join in the mix of what our family's doing and what our church is doing. I still have to unload the dishwasher and watch my younger brothers and all of that."
Although her music isn't a personal ambition, she wants God to do great things through it. She has a passionate heart for India, which goes back to another tour—on a bike.
At age 11, Bethany joined a 150-mile bike ride to raise money for Gospel for Asia native missionaries. The cyclists rested at her family's house, and a GFA staff member shared stories from Asia.
"I was so young—I'm still so young, I know—but even then, hearing the amazing things God was doing an ocean away stuck in my heart," Bethany remembers. Now she has chosen to use her talent to join in what God is doing there.
"It's normal for artists to partner with different ministries, and GFA was the first thought I had. We're always giving that book away!" she says, referring to Revolution in World Missions. This spring, Bethany visited India and saw the work of Gospel for Asia first hand. "It shocked me into loving India more," she says.
"I am so honored to be in a position to try and serve that vision," she says of her partnership with GFA, "to watch history be affected by the love of Jesus for the world."
