Youth Team Reaches out to Dalits

The village Mihir and his team visited was home to many Dalits in Assam.

Gospel for Asia missionary Mihir and several teenagers from his church wanted to conduct a Gospel outreach in a village near their home in Assam, India. They knew this outreach would be particularly challenging because there were no Christians in the village, which has a large population of Dalits ("Untouchables").

While Mihir and his team were distributing Gospel tracts house-to-house, a group of men gathered and started shouting insults at them. The group grabbed the tracts and tore them up, threatening the Christians and telling them to leave.

Even though all of the tracts were destroyed, God gave the young team courage to continue their outreach despite the opposition. They visited a Dalit family and shared the Gospel, and their perseverance bore fruit when the family received salvation—the first family in the village ever to do so.

The family faces strong opposition from their relatives and other villagers for their decision, and Pastor Mihir continues to disciple and encourage them.

The Dalit family Mihir led to Christ became the village's first Christians.

Pastor Mihir asks for prayer for this family to stand firm in the midst of opposition. He also asks for prayer for the other villagers to open their hearts to the Lord, and that his ministry will continue to bear fruit in many areas.

Assam, the state where Mihir lives, lies at the foot of the Himalayas.
