Part 3 of a 3-part series about the life and ministry of a man named Kantilal.

Adhira didn’t know the Lord when she married Kantilal in 2009. Though her husband was a Christian and loved Jesus, it took time—and a family struggle—for Adhira to understand her husband’s devotion to Christ.

Part 3 of a 3-part series about the life and ministry of a man named Kantilal.

A Strange Occurrence

A month after her marriage, Adhira’s sister, Purnima, started feeling severe pain in her stomach. Then Purnima suddenly began exhibiting a strange turn in behavior: She fought with and yelled at everyone. She hit whomever came into her home, including her parents. She tried to run away often.

Four times, her parents took her to the hospital, but the doctors couldn’t help Purnima. Kantilal and Adhira concluded it was the work of an evil spirit.

The newlyweds traveled more than two hours to Adhira’s parents’ house, where her sister lived. Others who were there had to grab Purnima by the arms to force her to sit down and not run off.

“Leave me alone! Leave me alone!” the demon inside her shouted.

Kantilal laid his hand on his sister-in-law and prayed for her deliverance in Jesus’ name, and quickly, Purnima returned to her normal self. The demon had gone—but not permanently. When it would return, Kantilal and Adhira would go back to pray. Understanding the authority and power of Jesus, the demon would flee when Kanitlal prayed, but when the man of God would leave, the evil spirit would return. Eventually, Kantilal and Adhira decided to invite Purnima to live with them.

Adhira: Living Her Life for Others

Many lives have been touched through Pastor Kantilal's ministry.

She stayed with them for more than two months, and “because of our regular prayer and fellowship at home, she never manifested any evil power or demon possession,” Adhira says.

Soon, Adhira’s sister was completely set free!

Something inside Adhira’s heart toward God changed after witnessing her sister’s suffering and then the Lord’s deliverance. Through this miracle, the Lord established faith in Adhira’s, her sister’s and their parents’ hearts, and they believed in His goodness and redemption.

Without Her Husband for Three Years

That whole time, Kantilal and Adhira were living with Kantilal’s parents—a common practice in their culture.

A while later, Adhira’s father-in-law kicked her husband out of the house for wanting to serve the Lord full time.

“There is no right that you should live in this house. You leave your wife and children, and go anywhere you want to go,” Kantilal’s father told him. “Get lost.”

Helpless, Adhira watched her husband leave; she knew he had to be obedient to his father in this, and there was no other choice. So while Kantilal was away, she took care of their two children.

Adhira: Living Her Life for Others

Kantilal was forced to leave his wife and two young children after his father kicked him out of the home for desiring to serve the Lord.

Then one day, Kantilal surprised his family with a visit. He carried with him a heavy burden to pursue the Lord in Bible college, but he had to see his wife and children first. For about a week, Adhira enjoyed the company of her husband, but then he was off to Bible college for three years.

They weren’t easy years for Adhira or for Kantilal, but they made it through.

A Family Reunited

When Kantilal graduated, he returned to his wife and sons and his parents. His father’s anger had surprisingly subsided. Kantilal started showing photos of his ministry as a Bible college student to all his family members. He described to them the miraculous stories of healing, deliverance and redemption: The lame walked, the mute spoke, the sick were healed, and the mentally disturbed were restored to their right mind.

My son is doing something great, Kantilal’s father thought. People’s lives are touched—changed—because of my son’s ministry.

Three days later, Kantilal’s father gave him his blessing to serve the Lord. Not long after, Kantilal left to live near the Bible college where he would begin teaching—this time he brought Adhira and their two sons.

Adhira: Living Her Life for Others

Each night, Adhira and Kantilal thank God for the day, and they pray for the people Kantilal ministers to and for his students.

A Life Devoted to Prayer for Others

Now, Adhira is growing in her faith as she joins Kantilal in ministry. She spends time in God’s presence, seeking His guidance, healing and power for her husband’s ministry. She remembers her sister’s suffering and the deliverance Christ brought, and knows there is power when people pray in Jesus.

“I pray for my husband’s ministry and all the activities my husband is doing; that’s how I support him,” Adhira says. “Whenever my husband is in the mission field, people do come in large numbers and listen to him. … Because he is a man of prayer, he prays for all those people . . . People see [Kanitlal] is a man with God’s message and God’s power.”

Adhira knows her life and her prayers, too, help bring healing and hope in Christ Jesus to many people. She desires her sons will follow in Kantilal’s footsteps.

Adhira: Living Her Life for Others

The Lord has given Kantilal and Adhira the privilege of giving their lives for the sake of Him who died for them. Through their sacrifice, many more will come to know the Redeemer.

“My prayer is that the Lord will call these two boys in the days to come for full-time ministry, so they will go and do ministry. Like their father, they will go to the villages and tell people about Jesus; they will pray for those who are sick and demon possessed; and the Lord will touch the lives of the people through my children. That is my prayer and that is my wish.”
