Text from this PhotoShow:

When Latha was in 10th grade, her father showed up drunk at her school classroom. Publicly humiliated, she was forced to escort him home.
Latha often saw her father beat her mother, and sometimes she was beaten as well. She was fearful and ashamed of him, and she did not understand why he behaved as he did.
Latha's mother, Helena, also suffered from her husband's alcoholism. A health supervisor, she lost her reputation in the community when her drunken husband would publicly demand more money to support his addiction.
During these difficult days, a pastor encouraged Helena to listen to Athmik Yathra ("Spiritual Journey"), GFA's radio program. The very first time she listened, the topic was alcoholism. The message could not have come at a better time.
Helena had fallen into a deep depression. The burden of worry for her husband, her daughter's future and making ends meet was almost too much. At one point she even considered suicide. Then, in 1991, Helena's husband disappeared.
The program continued to bring Helena and Latha hope and encouragement. Helena wrote numerous times to the GFA address given on the program and poured out her heart. Each time, she received a personal, caring response.
Both mother and daughter gave their lives to Jesus and found true peace. With the help of the Lord, they have been able to start their lives over again.
Life has since changed for the better for Helena and Latha. On this day, they prepare tea for some visiting GFA pastors—a chance to show their gratitude.
God has blessed Latha with a godly husband, Sunil. She works as a ticket collector for the railway, and Sunil is a geologist.
Latha and Sunil are excited about the arrival of their first baby, and it is their desire to raise this child to follow the Lord.
Helena still thinks about her husband and prays for his return. He is now 54 years old. And though her memories are still painful, "God was there in all the situations and He was leading us," she says.
GFA Radio broadcasts programs, like the one Helena and Latha heard, in 92 languages all across Asia. We receive approximately 1 million responses from listeners each year.
In addition, GFA is launching the first Christian television network based in India. With your continued prayer and gift support, our expanded broadcast ministries have the potential to reach even more hurting people like Helena and Latha with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
