Assam is a study in contrasts. This lush, beautiful state in Northeast India is home to the famous Kanjiranga National Park, a habitat for Indian one-horned rhinos.
These one-horned rhinos aren't the only animals that find sanctuary here. Wild elephants, tigers, deer and boars are common in this state. These animals wander into villages, where they routinely trample homes and cause injury.
In the midst of this natural beauty, the people in Assam struggle to survive. Poverty is the norm, and lawless violence is rampant. These people are living in a refugee camp after being driven from their homes due to the clashes. These situations have given the people a strong hunger for peace in their lives.
In a village surrounded by the swampy Brahmaputra River, Gospel for Asia missionary Hadi Raham is sharing the Good News.
Many of the people Hadi ministers to are laborers in one of Assam's many tea plantations. They work in slave-like conditions for just pennies a day.
The people also depend on products collected from the forest for their daily existence. This woman is preparing bamboo shoots, which will become her family's meal.
There are no daycare centers. Instead, mothers craft baby slings out of scarves and carry their infants on their back as they work.
The people were ready to hear about the love of Jesus when Hadi arrived in their village. Dozens responded by choosing to receive Jesus as their Savior and following him.
Today Hadi disciples these new believers to be deliberate about sharing their faith. They take up this challenge with great love and fervor.
A group of men and women are shown with Hadi on their way to share Jesus in a neighboring village.
Hadi and his church members hand out Gospel tracts and other literature to introduce people to Jesus.
This simple approach has impacted hundreds of lives in this area of Assam. Five new churches have already been birthed as a result of their outreach.
But Hadi is not content. He is passionate to share the Gospel with everyone in his part of the state. His goal is to see 50 churches overflowing with people worshipping the Lord in Assam. And Hadi's one desire is for the peace of Christ to rule in their hearts.
