Physician's Directive (Living Will)

In addition to the power of attorney for health care, many people establish a physician's directive, which sets forth directions for providing critical health care. Most states allow adults to make “directives” in advance, instructing physicians and hospitals regarding extraordinary medical treatment when the person is unable to make decisions concerning these matters. This allows an adult person to instruct a physician or care provider the circumstances to provide, withhold or withdraw life-sustaining procedures. This directive, when combined with a Health Care Power of Attorney, will enable a person's desires to be carried out in this sensitive and problem-plagued area of the law. And these documents protect those persons who, in good conscience, act in accordance with your declared wishes.
