Help People Suffering from Disaster

Floods Devastate Sri Lanka Killing More Than 600

On Friday, November 28, Cyclone Ditwah pummeled Sri Lanka with torrential rains. Tragically, the resulting floods and landslides took the lives of more than 600 people, and hundreds remain missing1. 233,000 people have been displaced, their homes destroyed or damaged in the floods.2

In the wake of this tragedy, GFA missionaries are serving people in need in whatever ways they can. Right now and in the coming weeks, months and years, we want to continue providing practical help, in Christ’s name, to help affected communities rebuild and recover.

Ways to Pray

  • Pray for GFA to provide effective relief
Ask God to supply our needs and give us wisdom to provide food, water, shelter and prayer to the thousands of people affected by this disaster.
  • Pray for clean-up efforts and clean water
Flooding can contaminate water supplies and cause outbreaks of waterborne illnesses. Please ask God to quicken clean-up efforts and allow us to supply clean water sources where needed.
  • Pray for long-term rebuilding
As floods took lives and destroyed homes, recovery will take years for many people. Pray we can help individuals, families and communities to rebuild, whether it’s by constructing new homes or gifting needed possessions.
  • Pray for two flooded churches
Two of our churches were flooded in the disaster, and others stood at risk of landslides. Please ask God to help us repair the flooded churches and to protect any other churches from damage.
