Kumbh Mela Festival

Kumbh Mela Festival

A month-long festival called Kumbh Mela is being held in India. Pilgrims come from around the world to bathe in the Ganges River, believing that if they do so, their sins will be forgiven.

Some Facts:
  • The Kumbh Mela festival takes place from January 27-February 25.
  • During this time 80-100 million pilgrims will gather at the Ganges River in hopes of finding forgiveness of sins and earning eternal life.
  • One of the high days in which the river is believed to be more beneficial is February 15, when 20 million people will gather.
  • The last time the Kumbh Mela happened, people were trampled while trying to go to the Ganges.

Prayer Points:
  • Please pray for these pilgrims to find the forgiveness only Jesus offers.
  • Pray that spiritual eyes would be opened.
  • Pray for missionaries to have opportunities to share love of Jesus.
  • Pray for the physical protection for each of the pilgrims.
