Thoughout the next few weeks you'll no doubt hear the familiar strains of Pomp and Circumstance from high school and college auditoriums. The graduation season is upon us.
You may hear that familiar graduation song, or maybe you'll even receive an announcement in the mail during May. You're also likely to see photos of students wearing their mortar boards and robes. Each time you see or hear something that reminds you of graduation, take time to stop and pray for Bible school graduates all across South Asia who are heading to the mission field. Here are a few prayer requests for these new missionaries.
Each year, thousands of new Gospel for Asia-supported missionaries graduate from Bible colleges throughout South Asia and head to their new assignments. These missionaries have spent three years preparing to pour out their lives for the sake of those who have yet to hear that Jesus loves them. Read about a recent Bible college graduation ceremony.
Pray for the many new graduates assigned to serve on Gospel for Asia Mobile Teams and Film Teams. These missionaries keep a positive attitude in spite of their grueling, demanding schedule. Take a peek at the day in the life of a GFA film team.
Pray for GFA's women missionaries. Thousands of women serve as missionaries throughout South Asia. They serve alongside pastors; they teach, work with children, and write and record radio broadcasts. Most importantly, they minister to some of the most downtrodden people on the planet—Asia's women. You can see one group of women missionaries at work here.
Pray for new missionaries to stand strong against opposition. No matter where they go, these new missionaries will face opposition to the Gospel. In some cases, such as in this report, the opposition surfaces when God begins to stir hearts in the village. The anti-Christian extremists see people choosing to follow Christ and feel threatened by the drastic changes that result. Or they may fear losing their cultural identity when people abandon their old religious practices in favor of worshiping Jesus.
Pray for these new missionaries to be sensitive to the Spirit's leading, even if it takes them outside their church or their village. Missionaries have to learn to be flexible and open to God no matter where they are or why they are there. This missionary visited a family whose son was in the hospital. Pray that the missionaries would be sensitive to God's prompting and reach out in the name of Jesus in all situations.
Pray for the missionaries who will be arrested. Sadly, this is a common occurrence. Read about one missionary who embraced God's call to minister, even while serving in prison for a crime he did not commit.
